Bringing Dementia to Life: GPR Invites You to Experience a New Perspective

Dementia Awareness Walk on September 23 at the GPR Clinic – Event as part of Dementia Awareness Week and World Alzheimer’s Day

Approximately 1.8 million people in Germany are living with dementia. To mark Dementia Awareness Week, September 21–27, and World Alzheimer’s Day on September 21, the GPR Clinic aims to raise awareness about the situation of people with dementia and their families.

The highlight of the event is a dementia simulation course, which will be set up on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the lobby on Level 2 of the GPR Clinic, near the vintage Opel. Visitors, patients, and staff are invited to try out various tasks for themselves.

The course vividly illustrates what it can feel like when seemingly simple and familiar actions suddenly become impossible to perform. What happens when all efforts prove fruitless, when you no longer believe in your own abilities, or when you feel inadequate and helpless? The individual stations are designed to give an impression of the uncertainty, frustration, and overwhelming feelings that can arise in such situations.

The course was organized by Sandra Ganswindt, dementia and delirium manager at GPR Klinikum. The goal is to foster understanding, break down reservations, and raise awareness of the needs of people with dementia.

The event is supported by palliative care coordinator Veronika Weizsäcker and Ms. Britta Henrich from the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Association of Rüsselsheim e. V. They will be available to answer questions and provide informational materials on the topic of dementia.

Anyone interested is cordially invited to visit the Dementia Experience Course on September 23 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and experience a shift in perspective for themselves.
