Fast Track for Osteoarthritis: GPR Provides Information on Modern Treatment Approaches

How can patients regain mobility as quickly as possible after joint surgery? This question was the focus of a continuing education and information event hosted by the Orthopedic Clinic and the Clinic for Trauma, Hand, and Reconstructive Surgery at GPR Klinikum.

Under the title “Fast Track for Osteoarthritis—An Update for Physicians and Physical Therapists,” the speakers provided information on modern treatment approaches and the requirements for successful post-operative care. The focus was on the fast-track concept, in which patients are thoroughly prepared before surgery and mobilized as early as possible after the procedure.

The various presentations covered topics such as an introduction to a Fast Track program, functional rehabilitation following shoulder replacement, and current considerations regarding hip and knee replacements. Senior Physicians Ingmar Bothe, Suren Karapetyan, and Dr. Christoph Hausner, as well as Chief Physician Dr. Manfred Krieger, provided insights into their respective specialties. Roland Gräfe from EO Active TEP also presented a patient app. The event was moderated by Robert Gerstung and Dr. Manfred Krieger.

“Our goal is to get patients moving again as soon as possible after surgery. Thorough preparation and consistent follow-up care are crucial for this,” explained Dr. Manfred Krieger, Chief of the Orthopedic Clinic.

The event also provided an opportunity for interdisciplinary exchange among physicians, physical therapists, rehabilitation specialists, and colleagues providing follow-up care.
“Direct communication with our colleagues in physical therapy and rehabilitation is particularly valuable to us, because successful treatment does not end with surgery,” emphasized Robert Gerstung, Senior Physician in Trauma Surgery.

With this continuing education event, GPR Klinikum continued its interdisciplinary exchange with private practice physicians as well as partners from physical therapy and rehabilitation.
