Fibroids are benign muscle growths in the uterus that can cause, among other things, heavy menstrual bleeding, pain, or a feeling of pressure. Even Before Arrival Even before Ruta Randelovic arrived in Rüsselsheim, she was already in close contact with Asli Yilmaz, the senior attending physician at the gynecology clinic. Minimally Invasive Treatment of Fibroids Without an Abdominal Incision
In Sonata® therapy, an ultrasound probe is inserted into the uterus through the vagina. This allows for precise visualization of the fibroids. A needle electrode is then precisely inserted into the fibroid. Radiofrequency energy heats the tissue in a controlled manner, allowing the treated fibroid to be gradually broken down by the body.
“A key advantage of the Sonata® method is that no abdominal incision is required. The uterus and surrounding tissue remain intact. This makes the procedure a particularly minimally invasive treatment option for suitable patients,” explains Prof. Dr. Eric Steiner, Chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Short Hospital Stay and Quick Return to Daily Life
This minimally invasive treatment is particularly appealing to many patients because it involves a short hospital stay and, in suitable cases, can be performed without general anesthesia. After the procedure, patients can usually resume their normal daily activities within just a few days.
“We see a significant reduction in fibroid volume in our patients and, in many cases, a noticeable improvement in their symptoms. At the same time, the treatment is very gentle,” explains Asli Yilmaz.
The Fibroid Center has now established itself as a go-to resource for patients from the greater Rhine-Main region. However, patients from various parts of Germany are now also coming to Rüsselsheim. In addition to Ruta Randelovic from Berlin, patients from Stuttgart, Koblenz, and Karlsruhe, among others, have already been treated at the GPR Clinic.
