Red carpet and classic films: Film festival at the GPR senior living community “Haus am Ostpark”

From October 15 to 18, a touch of Hollywood and UFA came to the GPR senior living community “Haus am Ostpark.” During a multi-day film festival, residents were treated to ten films, most of them well-known classics such as “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” “High Noon,” and the James Bond film “Octopussy.” Of course, there was also a chance to revisit unforgettable actors like Heinz Rühmann and entertainers like Peter Alexander. But it was about much more than just watching movies together: The goal was to create a genuine movie theater experience that brings back memories, enriches daily life, and brings people together.

With great attention to detail, the perfect atmosphere was created for the occasion. A red carpet, theater seats, and a specially designed movie theater entrance provided a genuine cinema experience. Refreshments were also provided: freshly made popcorn and candy were served in true cinema style from a vendor’s tray. This way, the residents could not only look forward to the movies but also enjoy the special ambiance of a trip to the movies.

A film festival is more than just entertainment. It is a journey into one’s own life story, a piece of living culture, and an opportunity to rekindle cherished memories. Classic films, in particular, can be linked to personal experiences, special phases of life, or shared moments. The shared movie experience also offered numerous opportunities for conversation and new encounters.

The residents’ reactions also showed that this special setup had the desired effect. Many reported that they had never walked down a red carpet in their lives. This made it all the more wonderful to experience this moment for themselves and feel like a real movie star for a moment.

“It’s important to us not only to provide our residents with a varied daily routine, but also to create special experiences that bring joy and are remembered for a long time. The film festival shows just how much can be achieved with creativity and attention to detail. When our residents walk down the red carpet, laugh together, and strike up conversations, that’s exactly the added value of such events,” explains Eilert Kuhlmann, facility director of the GPR senior residence “Haus am Ostpark.” He adds that the next movie event at the GPR senior residence “Haus am Ostpark” is already in the planning stages.
